I take my Remembrance Day very seriously. I wear my poppy way past the month of November. If I manage to not lose it, I'll wear it the entire year until it's time to get a new one. I come from a family that was decimated by war...and to me, wearing the poppy is the least I can do to remember the brave soldiers that fought during that terrible time to liberate Europe, and brought what was left of my family hope and a future as they came over to Canada to rebuild their lives. On the back of Price's mask was always the yellow ribbon to show his support for our troops. I don't know what his story is, or if he wears it just because he generally wants to show them his support (which more people need to do) but it was always something I admired in the kid. It's no secret the current war in Afghanistan is not very popular among the general population. So far Canada has lost well over a 130 soldiers, and for a nation like ours, that's akin to a thousand. Some say it's a lost cause. I, however, disagree but I won't get into that. To see our young goalie proudly supporting them on a very public platform makes me happy. This year, he commissioned a special mask that he will wear on Remembrance Day. I'm guessing he'll be wearing it for the home game against Calgary, as the Habs aren't playing on the 11th (they're travelling to Phoenix instead). But he's only going to wear it once. Right after, he's going to auction it off for the Wounded Warriors Fund of Canada.
For a kid who gets run through the ringer by the media for being what he is (a small town kid adjusting to a bright big city), the small stories like these barely get reported. At 22, as he matures into his star status before our eyes, it's nice to see that he hasn't forgotten the values his parents raised him with. As a fan, I'm very proud of our boy. It's a lovely mask too!
